Allah defends the Honor of His Messengers

Reference: qsep.com

This article is part of, "A Critical Condemnation of those who mock the Messenger (salallahu alaihe wa-sallam)", an article compiled by Sajid. A. Kayum, after caricatures of Allah's Messenger were published in a Danish newspaper in 2005. This article is being re-posted to rebuff the latest, "Everybody Draw *** Day"

From Saarim al-Maslool ala Shatim ar-Rasool by Shaikhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah(rahimahullah) under the heading,

The Sunnah of Allah when the Muslims are unable to revenge from him (who insults His Prophets)

It is from the Sunnah of Allah that when the Muslims are unable to punish those who (seek to) harm Allah and His Messenger (by means of insults and abuse), Allah (Himself) revenges from him on behalf of His Messenger and He is sufficient, as Allah says, "Therefore, proclaim openly (Allah's Message of Tawheed) that which you are commanded, and turn away from Al-Mushrikun (polytheists, idolaters, and disbelievers). Truly! We will suffice you against the scoffers (those who mock the Messenger)." [Soorah Al-Hijr (15): 94-95]

The incidents of how Allah destroyed the mockers are well-known.

Allah's Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) corresponded with Qisrah (Chosroes, the Emperor of Persia) and Caesar, the King of Rome - both of them did not accept Islam - but Caesar treated the letter of Allah's Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) with respect, and showed honor for the Prophet - so his kingdom stood firm. It is said, 'The King is alive in his descendants until today.'(but) Qisrah (the Persian Emperor) tore to shreds, the letter of Allah's Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) and mocked the Prophet, so Allah caused him to meet his death very shortly, and his kingdom was torn apart into pieces and there was no kingdom left for his descendants and this - and Allah Knows best - is the realization of His Saying, "For he who makes you angry (O Muhammad (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam).), - he will be cut off (from every good thing in this world and in the Hereafter)." [(108): 3]

So, anybody who angers Him or wages enmity with Him, Allah annihilates him from his origin, eradicates his repute. (It is recorded) in the Saheeh from Allah's Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam), "Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine."[Saheeh al-Bukharee (8/509)]

So, how about someone who provokes hostility against his Messengers? He, who fights Allah is ruined. If one reads the stories of the Messengers mentioned in the Qur'aan, one would find that nations were shattered and destroyed when they harmed the Messengers and received them with evil words and actions like the Banu Israel, who were struck with humiliation, and the Anger of Allah descended on them, and they had no helpers because they killed the Messenger unjustly - as Allah has mentioned in His Book. You will never find someone who harmed a Messenger and did not seek repentance except that Allah struck them with a calamity.

As sign of nearness of victory

Mocking and cursing at the Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) by a people is a prelude to their physical or moral defeat.

Shaikhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) said, "Allah will extract revenge for His Messenger from those who slander and attack him. Allah will make His religion prevalent and will expose the lies of the liars if the people cannot apply the penal law a slanderer deserves. Many trustworthy Muslim scholars have conveyed numerous accounts of their practical experiences in different cities in the Levant. They said, "The Muslims besieged the Romans for long periods, like a month and more, until they (i.e. the Muslims) almost gave up on victory; no sooner than the dwellers of those Roman cities would start cursing the Prophet (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) that Allah facilitated victory and we conquered them. It was never delayed for more than a day or two after they started cursing and defaming the Prophet (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam)."

[A declaration condemning the attack by reporters from Denmarkand Norwayagainst the Prophet by Shaikh Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid]

So, from the ways of Allah is that He sometimes punishes His enemies with a torment of His own, and He sometimes does so at the hands of His believing servants.

In Conclusion

(1) Allah avenges the mockery and slander of His Messengers though He may give respite to the arrogant; and this provides great solace to those who are extremely hurt by the mockery and slanders on Allah's Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam)..

"How many a prophet did We send among the people of old! And never came there unto them a prophet but they used to mock him. Then We destroyed people mightier than these in prowess; and the example of the people of old has gone (before them)." [Soorah az-Zukhruf]

"But those who abuse the Messenger of Allah will have a grievous penalty." [Soorah Tawbah]

(2) Mocking the Messengers (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) and disrespecting them must be universally condemned and must be considered blameworthy as other forms of racist and hate-speech.

(3) Anyone who wishes to promote peace and mutual understanding, should voice their concern over the irresponsible abuse of the media, because such actions only lead to more hatred and suspicion.

(4) As citizens of the global village, insults and mockery towards religious figures are unacceptable. This is more a responsibility of living in a pluralistic society than a question of legal restrictions.

(5) Lastly, the Messengers are not harmed by those who mock them.

"Truly! We will suffice you against the scoffers." [Surah al-Hijr (15):9]

Allah's Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) said, "Doesn't it astonish you how Allah protects me from the Quraish's abusing and cursing? They abuse Mudhammam and curse Mudhammam while I am Muhammad (and not Mudhammam)" [Saheeh al-Bukharee (4/733)]

Finally, an advice to the Ummah of Muhammad (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam) who are deeply saddened by the slander on their Messenger, "Goodness and evil cannot be equal. Repel (evil) with something that is better. Then you will see that he with whom you had enmity will become your close friend. And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint." [(41): 34-35]
